To work as a veterinary nurse in Denmark an authorization is required. In order to receive a Danish authorization as a veterinary nurse you need to fulfil the requirements mentioned in the executive order No. 1153 of 30. September 2015 on veterinary nurses, Article 3, Paragraph 1, which states that your education needs to be equivalent to the Danish education as a veterinary nurses approved by the Ministry of Education and an assessment of your education will therefore have to be made.
When the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has received all the necessary documents, the above-mentioned assessment of your education will be made. When the assessment is done the decision on whether or not to issue an authorization will be made as soon as possible. Usually you can expect to get an answer from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration within two months.
If a decision cannot be made within two months, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration will contact you and inform about you when you can expect an answer on your application.
The authorization is not to be regarded as granted if the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has not replied within the set time.
In case of rejection
If the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration decides to refuse your application for authorization, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration will send you a reasoned decision.
If you disagree with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's decision to refuse your application for an authorization as a veterinary nurse, you have the right to appeal the decision. The deadline for submitting an appeal is four weeks from the date on which the decision was announced.
The appeal should be submitted to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, which will forward it to the Danish Appeal Board, Miljø- og Fødevareklagenævnet.
