To ensure the possibility of identifying bicycles and facilitate the recovery of stolen bicycles, manufacturers or importers of bicycle frames must engrave or otherwise apply to the frame a special code issued by the police.
A company or person that wishes to manufacture or import bicycle frames into Denmark must register with the police. The police issues a special mark (code) which must be engraved into, or with other authorized means be applied to, the frame along with the serial number and year of manufacture. (https://www.retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2009/755 § 1 (1))
If a person imports a bicycle from a foreign country, the police must be notified. The police issues a unique code, which shall be applied to the bicycle frame. The code can only be given at a local police station. If the bicycle frame is made of components that exclude engraving as a possible marking method, the person must consult with an insurance company for accepted methods of marking.
The police must be notified when anyone intends to rebuild or otherwise alter a bicycle for commercial purposes. (§ 4)
It is illegal to remove or otherwise damage a bicycles original marking or the code issued by the police. (§ 5)
Violations of this law result in a fine (§ 6 (1)). Companies can incur criminal liability in accordance with the criminal code chapter 5 (§ 6 (2))

Not all local police stations are able to provide a unique code for a bicycle frame. The police encourage applicants to call the local station to confirm whether it is possible to acquire a code or not.
