Admission to the Bar - for EU/EFTA Member State lawyers (temporary provision and establishment)

Danish lawyers (admission to the Bar) are appointed by the Danish Minister of Justice.

You will need this:

Admission on the basis of previous work with the Danish legal system

Enclose the following with the application:

  • Copy of passport;

  • Documentation verifying that the applicant is a lawyer in their home country;

  • Documentation that for at least three years the applicant effectively and regularly has been working with the Danish legal system, including EU law, or documentation that for a period of at least three years the applicant has effectively and regularly pursued the profession of lawyer in Denmark, but has only been working with the Danish legal system for a shorter period of time. In the latter case, information on and documentation of knowledge and professional experience of the Danish legal system must be provided, as well as information on courses and seminars attended relating to the Danish legal system;

  • Personal consent to the Ministry of Justice obtaining information from the Danish Criminal Register; and

  • Personal declaration that the applicant is of legal age and not under guardianship or co-guardianship in accordance with section 5 and section 7 respectively of the Danish Guardianship Act, is not subject to an administration order and has not entered into bankruptcy proceedings.

Admission on the basis of completion of an adaptation period set in advance by the Ministry of Justice

Enclose the following with the application:

  • Copy of passport

  • Documentation of qualification equivalent to Danish master’s degree in law;

  • Documentation verifying that the applicant is a lawyer in their home country;

  • Documentation that the applicant has completed an adaptation period set in advance by the Ministry of Justice. In connection with this, please see Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications, cf. Consolidated Act No. 575 of 1 June 2011 (on access to pursue certain professions in Denmark)

  • Personal consent to the Ministry of Justice obtaining information from the Danish Criminal Register; and

  • Personal declaration that the applicant is of legal age and not under guardianship or co-guardianship in accordance with section 5 and section 7 respectively of the Danish Guardianship Act, is not subject to an administration order and has not entered into bankruptcy proceedings.
